Academy of Prince 2023
July/August 2023 marked our 6th year of funk at Purple Playground - e hosted 18 students from the Twin Cities and beyond.
This activity was made possible by your donations and also by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Week one started at Urban Ventures in the Central neighborhood of South Minneapolis. Director of Education, Willie Adams, along with Vocal Music Director, Elisa Fiorillo, led the students in a blur of creation of original songs and more. Urban Ventures Studio Director, Mike Brooks welcomed us back with open arms and and a ready ear to record songs for our musical in progress, "The Indigo Stone."

Week two took us across the river to High School for Recording Arts in St. Paul where Adrian Crutchfield was able to join us, as well as PaviElle French, who helped us write "Liberation" as part of her residency with the American Composer's Forum. Join us September 17th at the American Composer's Forum Artist Equity Summit and see the students perform this new song with PaviElle.
